West Ham’s fight to avoid relegation continues, with the Hammers sitting just three points above the relegation zone, and David Moyes’ side travel to face Leicester City this weekend – in what could be a bitter clash.

The two Premier League sides don’t have the best of relationships following remarks made by Karren Brady earlier this season but that may have actually benefitted West Ham during the mid-season’s transfer window.

The Daily MirrorĀ claim West Ham were amongst the clubs interested in signing Algeria striker Islam Slimani on-loan from the Foxes but the former Premier League champions rejected their advances, instead sending him to Newcastle.

Slimani has since struggled for fitness on Tyneside, making just a limited number of appearances, and his season may have come to a premature close after he was charged with violent conduct in Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to West Brom last weekend.

It certainly hasn’t proved to be a successful time for Slimani and West Ham can be thankful they didn’t have another out of sorts striker on their books.
