OPINION
Byram was in the form of his life when he quit Leeds United in January 2018 to move up a division to the Premier League. In truth, it has been a difficult two-and-a-half years for Byram at the Hammers. He has struggled with niggling injuries and has not delivered the kind of consistent performances needed to nail down a regular starting spot. The 24-year-old has been trusted with just 36 first-team appearances and it was telling that West Ham signed veteran Pablo Zabaleta on a free last summer to be their main right-back. Byram made just 13 appearances in the recently-completed domestic campaign, during which he had two lengthy spells on the sidelines. Nevertheless, the versatile youngster is a decent player who can still make it in the Premier League. He can play both right-back and on the right side of midfield, and is capable of creating as well as scoring goals if given licence to move forward. Entering his prime years, he could be a smart summer buy for one club.
