West Ham’s co-owner David Gold has revealed that the club are likely to enjoy a record-breaking summer of spending in the transfer window.

The Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini will be given the licence to overhaul the squad at the London Stadium and is set to receive the financial backing to do so.

The Daily Mirror have reported that a £75million warchest could be available, while the Times expects the new manager to have £60million to spend on new signings.

Gold refused to put a figure on the funds available for the current window, but has tipped West Ham for a busy summer and has revealed the club’s full support for Pellegrini.

“You can’t put a figure on [what Pellegrini has to spend this summer] because you don’t know the players who are going to leave, therefore that will add to the kitty, or wont, as it might be,” Gold told talkSPORT.

“What I can assure everybody is that we’ll probably spend more money in this window than we’ve spent in any window in the past.

“That bodes well for our intent and we must wait and see where it takes us.

“He’s (Pellegrini) identified the positions he feels he needs to strengthen and it’s up to him now to tell us the players and we’ll do everything we can to bring them in.”

OPINION

It will be music to West Ham fans’ ears that they are set to spend big in the summer and adding a few high-profile additions is exactly what was promised to them when they completed their ground move to the London Stadium. The Hammers appear to be in a really healthy position right now and it looks like Pellegrini will have control to make the changes he wants. He should look to make four of four top quality signings this summer to add to the existing squad, which should get the club competing back around the European spots again. West Ham fans will obviously know not to get too carried away right now and they won’t believe it until they see it. However, it seems like a real positive step has been made in the past week and the club could be in for a hectic summer of spending. Gold’s transfer admission is certainly an exciting one and it would be nice to get a few early deals under the belt early in the window.
