West Ham endured a difficult transfer window as David Moyes failed to secure permanent deals for a number of midfield targets, instead having to settle for the services of Joao Mario on-loan from Inter Milan.

The Portuguese midfielder’s long-term future is uncertain though and West Ham are likely to enter the market for a central player regardless of whether Mario returns permanently or not- and they’ve been handed a boost in comments from a January target.

Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker was disappointed not to seal a move to the London Stadium in January but continues to speak about his aims of sealing a transfer, now stating that the World Cup is a good opportunity for him to get his name out there.

Quoted by SportWitnessthe Belgian international said:

“The World Cup is in itself important for an eventual transfer. But also individually, for the experience. It is something I dreamed of since childhood. Getting to that World Cup would be a victory in every way, but I am adamant that it will depend on me in the coming months.”

The 22-year-old is due to clash with England, Panama and Tunisia in Russia this summer and, given their January interest, West Ham are said to lead the chase- although Premier League rivals Liverpool could make a move.
