West Ham were extremely active in the January transfer window but were perhaps not fully satisfied with the quota of players they brought in, with David Moyes’ side linked to a number of other names.

The Hammers were said to be battling fellow Premier League relegation strugglers Crystal Palace for the services of Lille midfielder Ibrahim Amadou, who has caught the eye in Ligue 1 following his performances in the past few seasons.

However, a transfer to the Premier League never materialised and reports in England claimed the Cameroon midfielder was ‘distraught’ with his failure to secure a move across the channel, something which his agent has categorically denied.

Issuing a statement on Twitter, Sylvain Chavanon said:

“Following the events that occurred in the last hours of the transfer window, it is necessary to reestablish some truths about the missed transfer of Ibrahim Amadou.”

“British media, which have no contact with Ibrahim, have portrayed a player devastated by this failed transfer. Various rumours in this sense were then relayed in France (without prior verification), provoking the anger of Lille supporters against Ibrahim. He did not wish to return on these events and preferred to express himself where it really counts, ie on the pitch,”

Amadou will be focused on bringing the Lille fans back onto his side following the closure of the transfer window and it remains to be seen whether West Ham will reignite their interest this summer.
