West Ham are actively seeking improvements to their squad in the second-half of the season as they seek to push away from relegation trouble at the bottom of the Premier League and David Moyes seems to have cast his eye towards the wide areas of his side.

With Michail Antonio struggling for fitness, the Hammers are considerably weak on the right-hand side on their ranks and it’s an area that Moyes has looked to bolster- although links to Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore and Newcastle’s Christian Atsu are hardly inspiring.

Instead, eyes need to be cast to Europe where the services of Nicolas Gaitan may be available, as the 29-year-old seems to be surplus to requirements amidst links to Inter Milan and Swansea City- but the former may have pulled out of the race.

West Ham would certainly be a more attractive prospect than Swansea, particularly due to the position of the Welsh club in the Premier League table, and Gaitan would surely prefer to live in England’s capital than in South Wales.

Capped 16 times for Argentina, Gaitan has struggled to find his feet in the Spanish capital and a January transfer looks likely as the South American is looking to secure a spot with his national side for the World Cup this summer.

His play in the attacking third would add a significant boost to West Ham’s front line, where the Hammers have struggled this season, and a partnership with compatriot Manuel Lanzini would be beneficial- as would support from Marko Arnautovic.

That attacking trio, with Javier Hernandez leading the line, could also bring the best out of a Mexican striker who has so far struggled to shine in his return to the Premier League- although, admittedly, support from deeper has often not appeared.

It would also stand as another marquee signing for a West Ham side looking to assert themselves on strong ground for the years to come, with the aim of becoming regulars in the top-end of the Premier League table and to progress in the Europa League.

Gaitan certainly fits the bill and, amidst links to Swansea, he seems to be available and beating the South Wales side to his services shouldn’t be too much difficulty for the Hammers.
