West Ham continue to push for new recruits in the January transfer window but there is also exciting news emerging from behind the scenes.

The Hammers have revealed on their official website that 18-year-old right-back Ben Johnson has signed his first professional contract with the East London side, having celebrated his birthday yesterday.

Johnson has impressed with the U23 side this season and was named on the bench for the Premier League clash with Manchester City last month, with big things expected of the teenage starlet.

David Moyes has taken a liking to the young defender and has allowed Johnson to train with the first-team on a number of occasions this season, potentially handing the talented youngster a path into the senior squad in the near future.

The right-back area of West Ham’s side has been somewhat of a problem position for the Hammers, with summer signing Pablo Zabaleta struggling to assert himself and Johnson could well set his sights on replacing the veteran Argentine in the squad.
