West Ham are ready to step-up the chase for their prime defensive target in the coming weeks as they’re prepared to offer a player plus cash deal in an attempt to get their man.

The Sun states that the Premier League strugglers are determined to raid fellow relegation threatened side Swansea City for the services of centre-back Alfie Mawson, who is said to be rated by the Welsh side at a whopping £40m.

West Ham seem unprepared to offer that figure up front but are looking to tempt the Swans into a deal that includes Ghanian attacker Andre Ayew, who has been linked with a return to the Liberty Stadium this month, along with £25m.

The 23-year-old defender has long been chased by the Hammers and they’re ready to lure the 23-year-old defender to East London by offering quadruple the wages he’s currently on- with reports stating they’ll raise his earnings from £15k to £60k-per week.

Swansea, rock bottom of the Premier League, are understandably determined to keep hold of one of their finest assets but new manager Carlos Carvalhal has a decision to make as the addition of Ayew, along with £25m, could provide a boost.
