West Ham are desperate to bolster their midfield options during the January transfer window and David Moyes is said to have turned his attention towards another name.

ESPN claim that the Hammers have turned their attention to Real Betis’ 21-year-old midfielder Fabian Ruiz, with Moyes reportedly flying out to Barcelona to watch the youngster in action yesterday against the La Liga leaders.

Ruiz, capped by Spain’s U21 team, has been chased by Tottenham Hotspur in recent months but West Ham are considering a move to hijack that approach, aided by the fact they’ll be able to offer the Spaniard more regular first-team football.

Signing Ruiz would be a fairly easy deal to complete as it’s stated he has a £14m release clause in his contract- and he’d be able to go on to become a huge player for the Hammers in the coming years, as well as providing an immediate boost in the relegation battle.

Moyes prefers to see his targets in action before making a move and his trip to Catalonia this weekend suggests that he may be preparing to swoop for the 21-year-old this month.
