West Ham remain active in the January transfer windows and there is likely to be a variety of activity in East London during the final nine days of the mid-season window.

The Hammers are desperate to improve their squad, chasing a new midfielder and a reliable striker, but may need to sell to raise funds for their business- which is why they have to bite the bullet in one deal.

Recent reports state that West Ham rejected a £14m bid from Swansea City for the services of Andre Ayew, with Moyes not keen on selling to a Premier League rival. However, the Scottish boss is left with little choice.

The Ghanian striker is surplus to requirements at the London Stadium and there isn’t a wide array of interest in his services, with Swansea seemingly the only club looking for a deal as they seek to bring him back to South Wales.

As such, West Ham need to bite the bullet and improve the sale of Ayew, then immediately using the funds they receive to bolster their own squad with January additions. Whilst it is a risk, it’s one that has to be taken.

Ayew has not been able to rekindle the fine form he showed at the Liberty Stadium that earned him a £20m move to West Ham in August 2016 and he’s unlikely to re-establish himself in the Hammers’ first-team once again.

On high wages and able to command a decent price, offloading Ayew will provide significant room for the Hammers to move in the January transfer window- and there’s a big chance that the Ghanian will continue to struggle back in South Wales.

West Ham need that movement in the next nine days, as they seek to bolster their squad and keep their heads above water, so it’s time to bring an end to this saga and accept a sale- then immediately reinvesting the money.

The price being reported for Ayew would be enough for West Ham to conclude a number of deals in the market, with Lyon’s Clement Grenier available for just £1m and Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott potentially moving to the Premier League for a fee in the region of £7m.
