West Ham United have seen their London derby fixture with Tottenham Hotspur moved away from New Year’s Eve, an official statement has confirmed.

The Hammers were due to clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s top-four chasing side on December 31st but ‘transport issues’ have seen the fixture moved back four days, now taking place on Thursday 4th January at 8pm.

A decision was made to benefit supporters, due to extreme congestion around the tube stations alongside the standard New Year’s crowds, and the intensity of the fixtures across the New Year period may have now been increased.

Whilst the move does give the Hammers additional days to recover following the tie against Bournemouth on Boxing Day, the game against Tottenham is now due to take place just two days after a tie with West Brom on January 2nd.

The Hammers will then face an FA Cup third-round tie on the weekend of the 6th of January, with the opponents set to be confirmed following tonight’s draw.
