West Ham gave their survival hopes a massive boost at the weekend with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Chelsea, which handed David Moyes his first victory in charge of the Hammers.

The East London side remain with stern tests ahead of them though in their quest to escape the relegation zone, with a home clash against Arsenal tomorrow night.

Arsene Wenger’s top-four hopefuls have seen their form drop in recent weeks, losing to Manchester United and then drawing with Southampton. The Gunners are far from their best away from home and this could play into West Ham’s favour.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson certainly thinks so, as he predicted a draw between the two sides tomorrow. Writing in his weekly predictions, he said:

“I thought West Ham did really well to hold on for their win against Chelsea because, watching the game, I thought they might have scored too early. It was a big game for David Moyes, who got his first win as West Ham boss in his fifth game in charge.”

“I said after the Hammers lost out to a late Manchester City winner in their previous match that their performance had given them something to build on and they will have even more confidence now.”

“They also have Michail Antonio fit again, who gives them pace and movement up front as well as a physical presence, and as a team they are working hard and giving themselves the best possible chance in games.”

“That is why I am backing them to get something out an Arsenal team who started slowly against Southampton on Sunday and ended up dropping more points.”
