West Ham face a stern test in the January transfer window to secure a deal for a reported top target, amidst reports that a Premier League rival are confident of securing his signature.

The Daily MirrorĀ states that Sam Allardyce’s rejuvenated Everton side are confident of landing the services of French midfielder Steven N’Zonzi in January, after the former Stoke City man fell out of favour with current employers Sevilla.

N’Zonzi revealed last month that he’s likely to leave the Andalusian side in the New Year and that has created a battle for his services, with Everton leading the charge- although West Ham hope they can scupper a deal.

David Moyes stated after last night’s defeat to Arsenal that the Hammers need more midfield options and N’Zonzi is a prime target, with the East London side reportedly holding talks with the 27-year-old later this week.

Everton are believed to be chasing a loan deal with a purchase to buy in the summer, which may hand West Ham an advantage if they approach with an immediate transfer offer.
