New West Ham manager David Moyes has blamed his players for the weekend’s defeat to Watford, saying some of the club’s ‘big players’ are letting the side down.

The Scotsman, who was appointed as the successor to Slave Bilic earlier in the month, took charge of his first game on Sunday afternoon at Vicarage Road, however things did not go as planned.

Goals from Will Hughes and Richarlison – as well as a string of fine saves from goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes it must be added – sealed a 2-0 win for the home side, condemning the Hammers to a third defeat in four top flight fixtures.

Moyes said he was disappointed with a number of his players following the defeat.

“I always thought this was a big job. Some big players with big reputations disappointed me a lot.” he said speaking in the Independent.

“I thought they would show me more. They need to show me why they have got that reputation.

“I don’t enjoy the performance and I expected us to do better. We tried to stay in the game and give ourselves a chance – and we probably did – but overall it was not good enough.”
