West Ham’s search for improvements to their forward line in January could be handed a huge boost with the news that the Hammers stand amongst the favourites in the race for one striker’s signature.

The Daily StarĀ reveals that bookies have West Ham down as the favourites to sign out-of-sorts Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge in January, who could be looking for a new club as he seeks to improve his chances of making next summer’s World Cup.

Sturridge has played just 12 matches this season, earning just four starts, as he’s found himself behind Roberto Firmino and young Dominic Solanke in the pecking order- with the 20-year-old also recently earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England side.

Former Chelsea and Manchester City striker Sturridge could therefore be on the move in January and a slide down the Premier League standings is expected, with the 28-year-old failing to find consistency at any of his clubs so far in his career.

The concern for West Ham though is Sturridge’s injury record, as fans will be unsure about signing a striker who has suffered regular problems in recent seasons.
