West Ham icon Dean Ashton has named his ‘signing of the summer’, and it comes as little surprise to many that it isn’t a Hammer.

The Hammers spent big during the summer to bring in the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez, however neither has lived up to the hype in what has been a poor start to the campaign.

Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta, who also joined during the summer from Manchester City, have also struggled.

Ashton instead has looked to the other half of the table to name who he thinks has been the Premier League’s best addition of the summer: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Ashton said: “Mohamed Salah is the best signing of the summer. He looks a totally different player from his time at Chelsea.

“I’ve been surprised by how quick, how direct he is, and he’s a better finisher than I thought.

”He’s really added to that Liverpool side.”

Salah has found the net 12 times in 17 appearances since his £35 million move from AS Roma.
