David Moyes is already hard at work trying to fix West Ham’s fitness problems, with players reportedly left ‘exhausted’ after the Scot’s first training session.

The Hammers were recently shown to be the Premier League’s lowest club in terms of distance covered and number of sprints per game, leading to criticism of now former boss Slaven Bilic that his players were not fit enough.

While the Croatian insisted the players’ fitness was not a problem, results pointed otherwise with West Ham currently residing in the top flight’s relegation spots.

After his appointment on Tuesday afternoon, new man David Moyes is reportedly already hard at work to fix what he has identified as one of the major issues at the London Stadium.

A source close to the club said via Twitter: “Just spoke to a couple of people again and once more training was very intense!

“Players are not used to it and some are exhausted!  Certain players have been correctly targeted already to improve their fitness and improve discipline and commitment.”

Moyes has already been vocal with his plans in East London, saying he will be more aggressive both on and off the training ground with players, something that seems to have reflected early on in his West Ham career.

“I want to be more aggressive. When I was younger it was, ‘This is how it is, take it or leave it’. As you get older, you mellow.” he said.

“In this job, I’m going back to being David Moyes at Preston – when players were crying at the work.

“If the players here were thinking the work had not been hard enough, I hope they won’t cry if we work them harder. We might need to upset a few to get where we need to go.”
