West Ham are entering new waters under the guidance of David Moyes, who was appointed as the club’s boss on Tuesday following the sacking of Slaven Bilic earlier this week.

The Scottish boss is being tasked with leading the Hammers to safety after a sequence of events this weekend saw the club slip into the Premier League’s relegation zone, with West Ham’s overall league record standing at just two wins from eleven matches.

Signings are therefore inevitable in January and West Ham could see the appointment of Moyes push through a deal for a long-term target, as reports from ESPN during Moyes’ time at Manchester United stated he was keen on signing William Carvalho.

The Portuguese midfielder was of course heavily linked with a move to West Ham during the recent summer, though a deal failed to go ahead and a war of words ignited between the two sides, but the Hammers could revive their interest.

West Ham have lacked a presence in midfield this season and have seen players like Mark Noble drastically under perform, suggesting that central midfield is an area they need to improve considerably- and Carvalho would be exactly that.

The sticking point, however, is that Carvalho would likely exceed the club’s record transfer amount paid for Marko Arnautovic this summer and the board may not be willing to show so much faith in a manager who is only signed for the remainder of the season.
