Football fans everywhere have slated West Ham fans who were called out in the media for ‘dialling 999’ after their sides 2-0 defeat to Watford at the weekend.
It was revealed following the loss at Vicarage Road that a number of fans had called Essex Police in order to complain about their side and the result.
Essex Police’s Force Control Room released a statement via their official Twitter account, saying: “Ringing 999 because West Ham have lost again and you aren’t sure what to do is not acceptable!”
Police later added that calling 999 about West Ham was a “complete waste of our time”.
The tweet was retweeted over 6000 times, and has since caught the attention of the national media, who subsequently chose to lament fans who chose to dial the emergency services following Sunday’s game.
Following the revelation, a host of football fans – including supporters of the Hammers – have taken to social media to show their backing of the Police’s statement and criticise those who partook in such calls …
I trust they are prosecuted for wasting police time
