West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic was severely criticised for his performance against Brighton on Friday night.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was heavily critical of the Austrian’s lack of movement on the left hand side, and accused the 28 year old of believing he was Cristiano Ronaldo when his ability suggests otherwise:
“That guy [Arnautovic] is Ronaldo in his own mind. That’s the problem, he thinks he is better than he is.”
Arnautovic was hauled off after 74 minutes of the match by manager Slaven Bilic, and it is certainly the case at the moment that the Hammers’s £20m outlay has failed to pay off.
The winger made two assists in the 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup back in September, but he has failed to contribute anything in front of goal during his six appearances in the league so far this campaign.
The Austrian international looks like another signing that has failed to come off during Bilic’s time in charge. How much the Croatian has had to do with the club’s transfer business since his arrival, it is unknown, but something drastic has to change in the club’s recruitment department going by the past few transfer windows.
Here is some of the Twitter reaction to Arnautovic’s performances:
Arnautovic is too lazy. Payet didn't defend but made stuff happen. Arnautovic does neither. We can't afford to have players like him.

By the time Arnautovic’s contract has finished he’d of cost the club a total outlay of £51m….I’ll just leave that with you!
