West Ham full-back Arthur Masuaku has been handed his first international call up by DR Congo.

A former France international at youth level, Masuaku has since decided to pledge his allegiance to the central African country, and has been rewarded with a spot in manager Florent Ibenge’s 36-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Tunisia.

The pair of fixtures, set for early next month, could prove to be pivotal for both sides with the duo level on points at the top of Qualifying Group A. Congo only lead the group due to having a superior goal difference.

Masuaku joined West Ham last summer from Greek side Olympiacos for £6.2 million, however missed a large chunk of his debut season at the London Stadium with numerous injury problems. Despite only making a dozen or so starts last season, the French born star still received many plaudits for his performances from the Hammers fan, many who see the 23-year-old as the club’s strongest player in the left-back position.

The Hammers star is one of four Premier League stars named in the squad alongside Bouremouth’s Benik Afobe, Chancel Mbemba of Newcastle United and Premier League new boys Huddersfield’s Elias Kachunga.
