West Ham U23s Premier League International Cup tie against Portuguese giants Benfica has been given a date.

Terry Westley’s young Hammers face The Reds – who were knocked out in the group stages of the competition last year – on November 21st. A venue and kick-off time is yet to be confirmed.

Porto won the tournament for the 2016/17 season, beating surprise runners up Sunderland emphatically 5-0 in the final, while West Ham were not involved.

The Hammers’ campaign in the International Cup kicks-off at the end of this month, as Westley’s side travel to Tottenham Hotspur on August 21st, the second time the pair will face off in a fortnight.

Their final group game comes against the 2015/16 champions Villarreal, only four days after the Benfica clash, when the Hammers welcome the Spanish outfit to Dagenham  and Redbridge’s Chigwell Construction Stadium.

West Ham are one of twelves English sides in the competition, alongside Liverpool, Newcastle, Reading, Derby County, Leicester City, Everton, Swansea, Manchester United, Sunderland, Arsenal and Spurs.
