Lille have had a £4.4 million bid for West Ham target and St Etienne defender Kevin Malcuit defender rejected, leaving the door open for the Hammers to make their move, according to TalkSport.

The defender was wanted by the Hammers in January but they were unable to conclude a deal before the close of the window, but with Lille’s recent rejection, the club may reinstate his interest in the sought after full back.

After the Hammers had a difficult campaign at the back, conceding 64 goals in the league (the fifth worst record in the league), Slaven Bilic is looking to reinforce his defensive line up this summer with Malcuit allegedly on the hit list.

West Ham will have to compete with Lille for his signature however, and it is likely they will have to pay a significantly higher fee than the £4.4 million offered by St Etienne’s Ligue 1 rivals.

Malcuit enjoyed an impressive past season, making 25 appearances in Ligue 1 for the side who finished eighth, as well as made the last 32 of the Europa League where they were knocked out by Manchester United.
