Eupen have allegedly turned down a £7 million move for winger Henry Onyekuru from West Ham United, according to journalists in Belgium.

The Hammers looked set to sign the the dynamic forward after hijacking a potential move from London rivals Arsenal, but the Belgian First Division side appear to have higher hopes for their 20-year-starlet, stating they would prefer to sell the Nigerian to a ‘more prestigious club’.

The news will come as an outrage to West Ham fans, who until only yesterday were to believe that Onyekuru would soon be playing his football at the London Stadium, subject only to a work permit and a medical, the latter proposed to be going ahead later this week.

“The first and most important thing for a player is to get playing time,” Onyekuru told KweséESPN last week.

“I’m still young and I still have a long career to pursue but now I need to play.”

The £7 million offered had met the youngster’s £6.8 million release clause, however Eupen thus far appear to be refusing to part ways with the First Division joint top scorer of last season. Onyekuru scored 22 times in his debut campaign.
