Tuttomercatoweb are continuing to report that West Ham are leading the race to sign Inter Milan full back Davide Santon.

The Italian website however believe that the Italian will need some convincing to join the Hammers, and wants to see what the club’s ambitions are before committing to a move to the London stadium.

The link to Santon is a strange one to say the least. The Italian can play in either full back positions, but with West Ham possessing two left backs in Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku, whilst also already signing Pablo Zabaleta to strengthen the opposite flank, it’s clear a pursuit for the former Newcastle player can’t be Slaven Bilic’s top priority this summer.

With the lack of cover at right back throughout last season, it maybe that the Croatian feels he needs more than Zabaleta to strengthen the right hand side, but the fact that the club have already made it clear that they will only make three major signings this summer, it makes any move for Santon far less likely.
