Sporting Lisbon have entered the race to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, according to CM (via the Leicester Mercury).

West Ham and West Bromwich Albion have been linked with the Algerian international in the past few months and the Portuguese publication are reporting that the Hammers still maintain an interest.

Slimani broke the Foxes’ club transfer record when he moved from Sporting for £28m last summer, but he has found himself on the periphery of the first team since Craig Shakespeare was made interim manager back in February.

Sporting meanwhile replaced Slimani with Dutch forward Bas Dost, but after scoring 34 goals in all competitions last season, the 27 year old could be leaving Portugal for China prompting the Lisbon based team to return for one of their former players.

It is believed however that Sporting are only prepared to pay half of what Leicester paid for Slimani last summer with a €15m (£13m) fee being suggested.
