West Ham are keen on signing striker Shane Long from Southampton, according to Evening Standard journalist Ken Dyer.

The Hammers are believed to be keen on injecting some pace into their attack in the summer and after being linked with the Saints forward at the start of the season, it seems the London club are keen on making another attempt to sign him.

The Irish international has had to play second fiddle to both Charlie Austin and January signing Manolo Gabbiadini this season, and has generally been used as an impact sub by manager Claude Puel.

Since joining the South coast club for £12m from Hull City in 2014, the 30 year old has scored 25 goals in 116 games, although a lot of those matches have been appearances from the bench.

This season, Long has played 43 times in all competitions but has started just 18 of them, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
