West Ham have been linked with a surprise move for Shane Long.
According to a report in the Evening Standard the Southampton striker is on Slaven Bilic’s transfer wish list.
Long is known more for his industry and team work than scoring prowess but has never gone short of admirers having been involved in three big money transfers over the last few years.
While interest in Long is perhaps surprising the fact that it is in the London Evening Standard adds credibility- Bilic is a columnist with the newspaper.
The Irish internationalist has only scored five Premier League goals but is rated highly across the game as a second striker rather than as an out and out scorer.
According to the report West Ham are still keen on Michy Batshuayi but that would almost certainly be on loan with Chelsea looking to recoup most of the £33m that they paid Marseille for the striker last summer.
