West Ham could be set to miss out on Stoke City full back Glen Johnson, after the Daily Telegraph reported the 32 year old is close to sealing a one year contract extension to stay the the Bet365 stadium.

The right back’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but there was an option in place which would’ve triggered a further year if the player reached a certain number of games. Due to injury the defender was set to miss out on the extended contract so the Potters have stepped in to offer him another new deal.

Johnson has started three of the last four league games under Mark Hughes and it seems he has done enough for the Stoke boss to want to keep him beyond the end of the season.

West Ham were reportedly keen on the England international to fill their problem position on the right hand side of defence but any move to the London Stadium looks to be far less likely after this latest development. Johnson started out his career with the Hammers before joining Chelsea in 2003.
