West Ham defender James Collins says he will stay as long as the club wants him. The 33 year old played an integral role in the vital 1-0 win over Swansea City last weekend.

The centre back has a year left on his contract with the Hammers but the Welsh international is keen to stay for much longer if he can. He told the Newham Recorder:

“I’ve got another year on my contract and I could be here until I’m 75! And why not?”

Collins started his second spell with the club in 2012 after previously spending four years at the club between 2005 and 2009 before joining Aston Villa. In total he has played 196 times for the Hammers.

This season he has been used less often by Slaven Bilic with 13 starts and 18 appearances in total. He has however started the last three Premier League games, helping West Ham to their first clean sheet for three months against Swansea on Saturday.

With Winston Reid still sidelined, and Angelo Ogbonna out for the rest of the season, Collins will almost certainly keep his place in the team alongside Jose Fonte when they face Sunderland at the weekend.
