West Ham are hopeful that midfielder Pedro Obiang will put pen to paper on a new contract in the “coming days” according to the Mirror (via Tribal Football).

The former Spanish Under 21 international is currently out injured with an ankle injury which will keep him out of action for the rest of the season. The Hammers are however keen on the midfielder remaining at the club beyond his current contract, which expires in 2019.

Sky Sports reported back in March that discussions over Obiang’s contract would take place at the end of the season, but it seems that as the 25 year old’s campaign has ended early, talks have been brought forward.

The midfielder struggled to establish himself during his first season in England after moving from Sampdoria, but he started 28 games in all competitions this season, becoming a first team regular under Slaven Bilic. He will be frustrated his season has come to a premature end but it seems he has done enough to merit an extended stay at the London stadium.
