West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady has questioned the professionalism of former player Dimitri Payet after he revealed in an interview that the real reason he left the Hammers was not due to family reasons, but because he became “bored” at the London club.
Writing in her column for the Sun, Brady criticised Payet’s decision to go on strike, and that they had been told by the player that his family wanted to move back to France:
“Some excuse to go on strike that is. His reason at the time was his family were unhappy in England. Payet did well with us and we did well by him. He regained his international spot and, while we had defensive problems at the start of the season, a decent pro doesn’t withdraw his labour. He, like us, should just move on.”
Payet’s sale to Marseille for £25million was controversial, but the 29 year old has a history of moving clubs after only a couple of years. The longest spell at any club was four years at Saint-Etienne between 2007 and 2011 before he moved to Lille.
Since returning to France, Payet has played ten games in all competitions for Marseille, scoring three times and providing two assists. The Ligue One side are currently fifth in the league but are a massive 25 points behind first placed Monaco.
