West Ham defender Winston Reid believes that the Hammers players were guilty of putting in a naive display against Bournemouth in the 3-2 defeat at the weekend.

The centre back believes the players should have been prepared for the Cherries coming out all guns blazing in the first half as they sought to break out of slump in form which had seen them fail to record a victory in the Premier League since the New Year.

Talking to the club’s official website, Reid said:

“I think we have been a bit naïve lately in some ways. You know before you come away from home that the crowd is going to be up for it. Bournemouth were in a tough position so they were going to come out of the blocks quick, you know it, it is simple.”

The 28 year old is reportedly on the verge of signing a new £70,000 a week to remain at the London Stadium. The New Zealander only signed a six year contract back in 2015 but the arrival of Jose Fonte from Southampton (who is reportedly on £70,000 a week) has forced the Hammers to offer similar deals to some of his team mates who feel they merit parity with the centre half.
