West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that striker Diafra Sakho is nearing full fitness, and should return to first team action very soon.

The Senegalese international has been sidelined with a back injury, and a hamstring injury, since he last played a game for the Hammers against Manchester United in the Premier League back in November. Talking to the Evening Standard, Bilic revealed the good news:

“Diafra Sakho has stepped up his training and should be with us very soon.”

The 27 year old has managed just two matches this season, with starts in the 3-2 defeat against Spurs, and the 1-1 draw against United at the end of November.

His struggles with the back injury in particular have been the most concerning as it seems to be a chronic problem which needs to be managed. West Ham fans will gladly welcome him back to the fold though with the Hammers having had to rely solely on Andy Carroll as a recognised striker for a number of months.

Sakho’s 20 goals in 52 appearances for West Ham will hopefully mean he can offer the team a much a greater goalscoring threat heading into the last 11 matches of the season.
