West Ham right back Sam Byram is frustrated with the Hammers’ slow starts in recent games. The 23 year old returned to the starting line up at the weekend for the first time since the 4-0 defeat against Manchester City at the beginning of February.

West Ham conceded three first half goals against Leicester City giving them an uphill struggle in the second half when they attempted a fightback. Byram told the club’s official website that the team need to start games with far more intent:

“I think it’s happened too many times when we’ve started slow and it’s took falling a goal or even two goals down for us to lift it and really show what we can do, so it was a frustrating afternoon for us.”

Since their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the league back in January; the last time they kept a clean sheet in the league, West Ham have conceded 16 goals in the space of eight matches, an average of two per game.

An injury to Winston Reid during the first half against Leicester did not help matters but there has also been no sign of improvement since Jose Fonte arrived in the January transfer window from Southampton. The Hammers have the fourth worst defence in the league and will need to shore up their backline if they want to finish the season on a high.
