Villarreal have entered the race to sign West Ham striker Simone Zaza, according to the Gazzetta Dello Sport. The Yellow Submarine are reportedly waiting in the wings if Valencia’s move for the Italian international collapses.

There are two major obstacles to Zaza’s switch to the Mestalla. The 25 year old has set his sights on a move back to Italy and officials from Valencia have arranged a meeting with the player in order to convince him that a move to Spain would be good for his career.

The second issue is with Juventus. The Bianconeri want to sell the forward but want to ensure that the purchase option in any loan deal is water tight so as not to repeat the experience they had with West Ham.

To that end, it was reported the Serie A club wanted the transfer to become permanent after just one game but Valencia are holding out for ten. This uncertainty over the transfer has led Villarreal to enter the running, although they will still have to persuade Zaza that a move to La Liga would be a good decision.
