Russian side Zenit St Petersburg are the latest club to have registered their interest in Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, according to Premium Sport (via tuttomercatoweb).

Ranocchia has been mentioned as a possible signing for West Ham by the Evening Standard in recent days but the player’s reluctance in moving abroad suggests the 28 year old will more than likely not leave Serie A for the Hammers.

Zenit’s interest could equally be doomed to fail for the same reason. The centre back has only played nine times this season, and Inter are looking to line up Porto’s Miguel Layun as a replacement, Premium Sport reports.

In any case, it seems West Ham’s interest in Ranocchia should dissipate once they have finalised a move for Southampton defender Jose Fonte. Sky Sports are reporting the Hammers are close to sealing an £8m for the 33 year old, with a medical scheduled for today.
