After stating that they won’t pay more than £25million for West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet, Marseille have switched their attentions to Tunisian winger Youssef Msakni, according to a report by AS.

Msakni is currently starring for Tunisia at the African Cup of Nations and Marseille have decided to enquire about the player’s availability with his current club Lekhwiya Qatar.

They believe however that Marseille have not totally given up on Payet, and see the Frenchman as still their number one target if West Ham lower their demands, but Msakni is being lined up as backup if no agreement can be made with the Hammers before the end of the transfer window.

Msakni predominately plays on the left wing, and has four goals, and two assists, in seven games in Qatar’s Stars League so far this season. He currently has 43 caps for Tunisia with six goals, the latest coming against Zimbabwe in a 4-2 victory in the third group match of the Nations Cup in Gabon. AS say Msakni will be available for cut price €5million.
