Rangers have enquired about taking West Ham defender Reece Oxford on loan until the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail. The 18 year old has returned to full fitness after being sidelined with an ankle injury for a large part of the season.

The signing of Southampton defender Jose Fonte for £8million may have reduced Oxford’s chances of featuring in the first team despite a season ending injury to fellow centre back Angelo Ogbonna.

Slaven Bilic may consider allowing Oxford to leave on loan in order to gain match fitness and increase his first team experience away from the pressures of the Premier League.

The centre back is highly regarded by the Croatian who has stated in the past that the teenager has all the attributes to be a top player. He has however used Oxford sparingly since giving the youngster his debut at the start of last season against Arsenal. The fact that the defender has been given a new contract however suggests that Bilic thinks he has a bright future at West Ham.
