Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez has expressed frustration over how West Ham are handling the transfer of forward Jonathan Calleri. The Argentinian was due to fly out to the Canary Islands on Sunday but the Hammers have delayed the decision on allowing the striker to leave.

Ramirez says he was awaiting a confirmation email from West Ham to allow Calleri to make the journey but the message never arrived. He is now concerned that the Hammers may demand some compensation for the loan.

It is believed the Hammers are due to pay Deportivo Maldonado £4m as part of a loan fee, but it isn’t certain whether this agreement would transfer over to Las Palmas. Ramirez told Las Palmas’s club radio station (quotes via La Provincia) that they will not pay any money. When asked about Calleri and another potential loan signing Fiorentina’s Hernan Toledo, he said:

“We are not going to pay. In fact, the players already had the plane tickets issued to land on the island between Sunday and Monday;. Calleri was coming from London on a direct flight yesterday [Sunday] and tomorrow the representatives and a personal adviser would arrive.”

“It was all ‘ok’, it was missing the West Ham email saying he is travelling tomorrow, but now West Ham is asking for a few more days, even though we already had an agreement with them. I’m sure he will come, but if he does not come, nothing will happen.”

Calleri said to the Italian media yesterday that he did not know if he would be joining Las Palmas but was hopeful that his future would be sorted out very shortly.
