West Ham striker Andy Carroll believes Andre Ayew will show his quality on the pitch for the Hammers despite a difficult start to life at the London club.

The Ghanaian international signed from Swansea City for £20million in the summer but a hamstring injury sidelined the 26 year old for the first few months of the campaign. He has subsequently returned to full fitness and scored his first goal against former side Swansea on Boxing Day, but he will be absent for the remainder of January to join up with Ghana’s squad for the African Cup of Nations.

Carroll told West Ham’s official website that Ayew will succeed at the club:

“Andre is a great player, he’s a great signing for us and it’s a shame that he had an injury at the beginning of the season, but he’s back fit now and looking forward to getting some more goals.”

“The manager isn’t going to be happy [losing players to AFCON] and obviously it’s difficult as players but it’s something that happens and we have to get on with it.”

Since returning to fitness, Carroll has managed two goals in seven league games, and with the ongoing absence of Diafra Sakho, and impending departures of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri, he will be heavily relied upon in forward positions until Slaven Bilic can bring in an additional forward during the transfer window this month.
