Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is “close to leaving” the Blues for West Ham on loan, according to AS. The Spanish newspaper are reporting that the Belgian international is nearing a switch to the London Stadium when the transfer window reopens.

AS’s report is in stark contract to most British media sources. The Guardian on Monday reported that Batshuayi would not be allowed to leave on loan in January despite the 23 year old’s lack of minutes on the pitch under manager Antonio Conte so far this campaign.

The Hammers made a bid for the forward in the summer when he was at Marseille but the player opted for Stamford Bridge instead. Whether he will now have a change of heart, and make the temporary switch across London to play for West Ham, is open for debate.

With the suspension to Diego Costa, the Belgian star may feel it is now his time to shine in the starting eleven for Chelsea over the Christmas period. Whether he makes an impression could prove crucial on whether he is allowed to leave in January.
