Leeds United have begun transfer talks with West Ham United over the possibility of signing striker Ashley Fletcher on a permanent basis, according to the Sun.

The Yorkshire club’s manager Gary Monk has reportedly been chasing the former Manchester United player for a number of months, and it was initially reported that they wanted the 21 year old on a season long loan, but the Sun now believes they want to buy the forward.

A £2million bid has been suggested but it is debatable whether the Hammers will entertain a permanent switch for Fletcher. First of all, the player only joined from United on a free transfer in the summer and has already scored one goal in the three starts he has made for the London club.

Secondly, West Ham are already expected to allow two strikers to leave in January. Jonathan Calleri could depart for Sevilla while Simone Zaza will almost certainly return to Juventus. It would leave the Hammers with just two recognised strikers in Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll if Fletcher were to also leave. We will know more when the window opens next month.
