When you think about the arguably most key area on the football pitch, central midfield usually comes to mind.
The notion often is that if you can win the battle in the centre of the pitch you’re more than likely to win the game and that has led to many managers in recent years trying to get as many bodies into that area as possible during a game.
We very rarely see two forwards now so an extra midfielder can be produced whilst playing three at the back and having another midfielder from that too is becoming more and more common.
Winning that battle, then, is key and so far this season West Ham haven’t been able to do that anywhere near as much as they would have liked.
Their midfield was as solid as it came last season as they finished seventh but this year has seen it overrun at times and we reckon Slaven Bilic should be looking at strengthening it. Here, then, are five midfielders we think he should look at in January.
