West Ham will step up their interest in signing Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic, according to the Sun, after they sent scouts to watch the 30 year old play for Croatia against Northern Ireland last week.

Then forward scored the first goal in the 3-0 win at Windsor Park and would have impressed the onlooking Hammers representatives. The Sun however reports it could take £18million to sign the Croatian from Serie A champions Juve.

The striker has also played for Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and would be a high profile signing for the West Ham. Question marks remain however about Mandzukic’s willingness to move to London.

He isn’t exactly surplus to requirements in Italy and has started the last four Serie A matches, scoring three goals, ending a goalscoring drought in the league in late October which extended back to April.

Manager Slaven Bilic will however hope his time as Croatia boss, where he coached Mandzukic, could help persuade him to make the move from Turin.
