West Ham will not have to contend with West Bromwich Albion if they pursue a move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.

The Sun reports that Tony Pulis was keen on bringing the 26 year old to the Hawthorns but they have now dropped their interest in the Frenchman.

The centre back was available on loan in the summer transfer window but the player refused to move, and wanted to fight for his place under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. Despite being fit for a couple of months, Sakho has failed to make a single appearance for the Reds.

Liverpool manager Klopp had a falling out with the defender on the club’s tour of America in the summer and looks almost certain the the defender will leave Merseyside in January.

The Hammers were linked with Sakho at the start of this month, but reports in France have suggested that both Milan clubs are interested in a deal for the player. Stoke (who also made a loan bid for Sakho in the summer) are also believed to be in the mix.
