Former West Ham goalkeeper David James believes the Hammers should be patient with striker Simone Zaza and allow manager Slaven Bilic to get the most out of him.

Zaza joined from Juventus on loan at the start of the season but has failed to score in ten appearances for the Hammers, but James told calciomercato.com that the 25 year old has talent, and just needs some more time to show it:

“I went to training a few weeks ago, I could see that he’s improving. Slaven Bilic is a great coach, he improves players. He’s beginning to help him [Zaza] change in order to get used to the English game.”

Whether that change will come in time is another question. Zaza’s move becomes permanent if the Italian international plays 14 league matches, as well as cup matches from the quarter final stages onwards.

If he makes an appearance tonight, it will be just five games before West Ham will have to pay €20million for Zaza. It is a fee which the Hammers are trying hard to avoid and the Sun report that they have entered talks with his parent club Juve in order to remove the clause. This would allow Zaza to play on loan until at least the end of the season to see if he can adapt to the Premier League.
