Contract talks between West Ham United and 17-year-old starlet Reece Oxford have stalled, according to ESPN.co.uk.

The defender became the youngest ever player in a West Ham shirt last season when he made his debut in the Europa League in July, and has attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides, including Manchester United and Manchester City.

Subsequently, the Hammers are hoping to improve and extend the youngster’s contract to keep him at the East London club, a deal which currently ends in 18 months.

They certainly don’t want to lose him cheaply or on a free in a year and a half’s time, but reports today suggest that both parties are still some way away from an agreement despite months of talks.

Oxford made seven Premier League appearances for Slaven Bilic’s side last season, but has yet to appear this campaign.

West Ham have struggled in the opening stages of the new Premier League season, picking up just one win from their first six matches.

The Hammers are particularly struggling at the back, conceding 14 goals in their last four league matches, and will need to tighten up at the back quickly when they entertain Middlesbrough at the London Stadium on Saturday.
