West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has stated that he wants to help fire the club into Champions League participation and believes he is up to the task of playing in European football’s top tournament.

The all-action midfielder has been an industrious and influential force in the Hammers side since moving to England from Anderlecht and now commands a regular starting berth for Slaven Bilic’s men.

West Ham have lofty ambitions this season after a progressive display last term, with the ultimate aim of finishing in the top four in 2016-17 and qualifying for the Champions League.

Kouyate has stressed that aiming high is critical in the Hammers’ progression and that he personally feels ready to regularly feature against the best that European club football can offer.

“Playing football is my dream and I’ve come to West Ham to help the team and to help them qualify for the Champions League,” he told The London Evening Standard.

“In my opinion I can play in the Champions League because I’ve done it before with Anderlecht and it was a very nice experience. I want to have this experience with West Ham.”

West Ham have had a promising summer in the transfer window and the fans will hope that their side is in the mix for a top-four berth come May.
