West Ham United winger Michail Antonio has apologised to the club’s fans after his side let a 2-0 lead slip to lose 4-2 against Watford on Saturday.

The Hammers were hopeful of a valuable three points to push the side in the right direction and looked in an ideal position to do so when the former Nottingham Forest wide man scored twice to put the hosts into the ascendancy.

However, Walter Mazzarri’s men fought back with vigour in the second half and were too good for Slaven Bilic’s men.

Antonio continued his strong start to the new season with a good performance and a couple more goals, with his recent inclusion in the England squad testament to his form.

However, the gifted attacker has stated that he would happily trade getting his name on the scoresheet for three points for the team and that his side needed to apologise to the London Stadium faithful.

“I’d rather not score and win the game than score two goals and lose it,” he told the club’s official website.

“We came out raring to go and started well, but after we got two-up I think we took our foot off it, and now it’s pure frustration. All we can do is say sorry to the fans for that and move on to the next game.”
